Youth Justice Coalition

Featured in this video collage are actions organized by the Youth Justice Coalition (YJC) to challenge the criminalization of youth of color. Youth take to the streets as part of a flash mob, a “zombie takeover” timed for Halloween 2013 that shuts down traffic on Sunset Boulevard and Echo Park Avenue in L.A., to challenge gang injunctions. They advocate for funding schools, jobs for youth, and youth centers instead of more policing. And they speak powerfully for investing in teachers, peace-builders, intervention workers, and counselors instead of increasing state funds for school police and surveillance.
