Restorative Justice Performance and Discussion

Time:
1PM to 3PM
Venue:

Michigan History Center

702 W Kalamazoo St.

Lansing, MI 48915

Description:

In conjunction with the Michigan History Museum's special exhibit "States of Incarceration," the Friends of Restorative Justice of Washtenaw County and Citizens for Prison Reform will present the play "Tough Case" by David S. Craig of Toronto. This play demonstrates a new method of responding to crime, a type of restorative justice called "victim offender conferencing". The story involves a 16-year old boy who has hideously vandalized the home of an elderly widow. The actors will be local non-professionals. The performance will take about an hour, after which there will be a discussion on using restorative justice as a method of handling crime in Michigan. Please come, view the exhibit followed by the play.

This free program is part of a series held in conjunction with our special exhibition, " States of Incarceration: A National Dialogue on Local Histories." The program series - made possible, in part, by a grant from Michigan Humanities Council, an affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities - features presentations and films that explore all aspects and perspectives on incarceration in Michigan and the United States. Any views, findings, conclusions or recommendations expressed in presentations do not necessarily represent those of the Michigan History Center, the National Endowment for the Humanities or Michigan Humanities Council.
